Took route 5, caught bike trail south of Buffalo – not very well marked – ended up on a dead end several miles out of the way – ended up riding in downtown Buffalo on various streets until I picked up a bike trail again north of Buffalo to Tonawanda. In Tonawanda, got on the Erie Canal trail to Lockport (parts of the trail were on the road paralleling the canal). Overall the trail was marked better in some areas than others and seemed confusing in downtown Buffalo. Met Dennis Scott, retired Lt Col with the Army and rode with him and his son from downtown Buffalo to Tonawanda. They are very familiar with the roads and routes and were a big help. Pretty views of Lake Erie; the paved bike trails along the canal were very nice.
Camped at Niagara County Camping Resort 3 miles east of Lockport (Passport America park). A big white rabbit outside our trailer door nearly drove Sandy crazy!
